COALITION OF IMMOKALEE WORKERS IN ST. PETERSBURG

Members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), a farmworker organization from Immokalee, Florida will be stopping in St. Petersburg tomorrow (Sunday, September 30) as part of a statewide "Focus on Florida" mini tour for education and action around the CIW’s current campaign against Miami-based Burger King. At 6:30 PM a Rally for Justice will occur at Burger King, 4570 34th St. S. in St. Petersburg. Signs will be available, but feel free to make and bring your own. This current campaign follows two successful CIW agreements with both Yum Brands (Taco Bell) and McDonald's that improved wages and working conditions for thousands of Florida tomato pickers in those companies' supply chains.

At 7:45 PM CIW members will show a film and discuss the CIW and the Burger King campaign at Cafe Bohemia, 937 Central Ave. in St. Petersburg. A silent auction of donated artwork will be held during the event. FMI: meghan@sfalliance.org, (727) 744-7706, http://stpeteforpeace.org/immokalee.html
